We have four members of staff and a small army of volunteers here at BCC working hard to offer services, advice, support and information on a vast array of topics. They also recruit and coordinate our growing team of volunteers without whom it would be impossible to keep all our services running.
Karen, our General Manager, carries out all the development work at BCC, making sure that we remain responsive to local community needs, and manages all partnerships. She also has day to day management responsibility for BCC, and works closely with the Board of Trustees to make sure that the strategic plan becomes operational and provides benefit to local people .
General Manager
I am a former Detective Police Officer, having served 30 years with West Yorkshire Police. I have worked for several organisations within the public, private and charity sector.
My husband, daughter and I have lived in Marton cum Grafton for 23 years. I enjoy meeting and supporting the community of the beautiful, historic town of Boroughbridge and the picturesque villages surrounding the town.
My interests are walking, discovering new places to visit and spending time with my family, friends and dog.
Deputy Manager
I am a retired Registered General Nurse and grew up in Yorkshire. having lived most of my adult life in various places I settled back in North Yorkshire in 2012.
In 2014 I began volunteering for BCC, befriending, shopping, helping at social events and acting as a driver. This led to me working in the office coordinating transport and general admin. I became Financial Assistant in 2016 whilst also volunteering. Over lockdown I worked from home assisting the General Manager responding to the increased needs of the local community. At the end of 2020 I became Deputy Manager whilst continuing to look after finance and various admin as needed.
I thoroughly enjoy my role, particularly the close connection with the local community, and assisting those in need.
I’m married with two adult children, and three grandchildren. I also enjoy walking, singing, writing and reading poetry.
Admin Assistant
My career started in retail with Morrisons Supermarket at the age 16 where I worked for 32 years. My first role was on the record bar selling vinyl and cd’s. I then went on to work in administration for 19 years followed by 12 years in HR. I transferred with the same company to the area of Boroughbridge, in the role as Admin Manager.
After 32 years with the same company, I took a leap of faith and went to work at Church Lane Surgery and trained to be a Dispenser which I did alongside my role as Community Champion in Morrisons, Boroughbridge. As Community Champion, I worked within the community supporting many organisations, including Boroughbridge Community Care.
I joined the team at BCC in July 2022. I enjoy this role as is gives me the opportunity to be creative, have new ideas welcomed with enthusiasm by the BCC team, while engaging and supporting people within the community.
Admin Assistant
I was very pleased to join the BCC Team in October 2023 following my retirement from North Yorkshire Council where I worked for 21 years.
My role within Health and Adult Services was to support and advise individuals, along with their families, to access care services in the community and to help them to retain their independence.
My husband and I have two sons and have lived in Boroughbridge since 2001 attending Kirby Hill C of E Primary School and Boroughbridge High School.
I enjoy walking our two dogs in and around the Yorkshire Dales and feel very lucky to now call Boroughbridge my hometown.
I love to bake and cook for my family especially on special occasions.
